FanYard is a sports community where Fans can make predictions on NFL, NCAAF football game outcomes and NBA, NCAAB basketball game outcomes and track their performance against the rest of the community each week.
What’s unique about FanYard over other sports pick’em sites is that for each game, FanYard uses everyone’s predictions to calculate the Yardstick, the community consensus of who will win and by how many points, rather than have fans pick against the point spread or a simple win/loss.
Fans can post comments, analysis, and debate game outcomes in the Game Yard or interact with other Fans through members’ Yard pages.
We chose Ruby on Rails because when we decided to move forward with this project, the start of Football season was 30 days away and it was the only web application platform that we could use to have any possibility of getting the core functionality ready for public launch within that timeframe.
