Bands & Music
My first Facebook application, a free resource for bands and artists to promote their music on Facebook. I built it on my own using Rails with custom extensions for the Facebook API. The application is complete with a musicians directory, band profiles, fan tracking, audio uploads, and lots more. Unfortunately, as this was a one-man operation, I was unable to raise the funds to compete with corporate-backed applications offering the same services to Facebook (iLike, Reverb Nation, and Facebook themselves are currently the major players for artist promotion on the site).
Despite the application’s inability to reach critical mass amongst its fierce competition, I’m very proud of this application and I consider it to have been a valuable learning experience, not only for developing in Rails, but also for developing applications which interface with external APIs (in this case, Facebook’s Platform API).
