The East of England QARC is the NHS body responsible for quality assurance in the cancer screening programme in the East of England. We are seeking an experienced engineer to help with the development and deployment of a secure web site where authorized health professionals can view relevant current data. Our data is stored in Microsoft SQL Server. There is a simple RoR application where users can log in and select reports. The RoR application accesses the data by calling stored procedures in MS-SQLS (an unusual scenario for Rails). Data security is paramount. The one essential attribute of any applicant is a thorough understanding of information security at the network, application, database and interpersonal levels. The work is flexible, and could include several of the following tasks according to the applicant’s skills and aspirations: • further development of the Rails application to improve ease of use, administration and the range of data available • server system administration (Linux on Xen virtual hosts running Apache, SSL, SSH, Passenger) • deployment development (Capistrano) • addition of graphs or Adobe Flash charts • application testing • database administration (MS-SQL Server) • database querying (T-SQL) • general support (management of backups, Subversion, documentation repository etc.) We are a small, friendly team working in a pleasant modern office just north of Cambridge. There is ample free parking and a reasonable bus service to the station. The work will be mostly on site. http://www.esqa.nhs.uk We do not use agencies.
