Pay: Excellent Pay Based on Experience
Wanted: A Systems Administrator with a Rails / Agile / Testing focus Reward: A Cool Business, Excellent Pay, and Great Co-Workers :) Goldstar.com helps people go out more by providing fun ideas, half-price tickets, member reviews, and all the tools they need to have a great night out. We’re present in 8 markets and help 800,000+ members go out to more than 3,000 venues. We want to make the world a better place by making live entertainment more accessible. We’re looking for a Systems Administrator heavily focused on the “Rails Way” and supporting the rapid development and deployment of our Rails app. Our system administration needs have grown, and we’ve recently done a “Big Rewrite” into Rails, but we still have a legacy app to support for the near future. This additional Sys Admin will work with the Rails developers (and should be one too) to streamline the development, QA and deployment processes, plus optimize the Rails production environment. Some things we want you to work on: • Automated deployment processes. • Multiple on-demand staging environments. We want them now. • Continuous Integration and automated testing (including real in browser test suites w/ cucumber + webrat + selenium). We’re getting there, but it’s a bit bumpy. • Automated provisioning. Cook it up, Chef. • Monitoring and optimizing production app servers. • Gem management. Nothing sucks more than losing a day because you had the wrong version of Hpricot locally. • Eventual migration from traditional “we own it” hosting to cloud or hosted services. Other things you’ll need or do: • Experience working on the agile edge. Chef, Cucumber, and Sprinkle should be old news. Ideally you’ve already started playing with CI Joe, and if you haven’t, you should want to. • Be able to handle 24-7 on-call shifts for site troubles. It happens. • Work with and back up the activities of the main Sys Admin. He’d like a vacation every now and then when he’s not getting injured on his dirt bike. • Experience with how things were done before Rails. We do have a legacy app to keep running for the time being. • Constantly look beyond the symptoms to the root causes. Put out fires first and then flame retard things so it doesn’t happen again. • You understand the importance of open source and have notable contributions to a community. • A sense of urgency and humor without snarkiness. • An appreciation for the importance of live entertainment, and a desire to make it better one cucumber test at a time. The tech group is a distributed team of 8 including 4 telecommuters. This is a full-time, permanent gig. Sorry, no Ronins allowed. (Probably best to not even mention ninjas.) Our preference is for someone in the Los Angeles area, but telecommuters will be considered. Excellent pay based on experience, stock options, medical & dental insurance, and free tickets to concerts, theater, comedy, sports, and more! A resume would be great, but what we really want are links to your blog, github repos, and manifestos. HEADHUNTERS, AGENCIES OR DEV SHOP INQUIRIES VIA PHONE, EMAIL OR FORM SUBMIT WILL BE IGNORED.
