Sr. Software Engineer Ruby on Rails LookSmart is a San Francisco-based Internet company that is building a new software engineering team in the Toronto area (or Waterloo depending on the site) for some exciting new development projects. We are looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails developer for our white label e-commerce platform. Daily responsibilities: • Design, code, test & deploy new features with very quick turnaround time (talking weeks, not months) • Ability to problem solve and fix code and data issues as they arise. • Support Business needs (often times this means drop what you are doing and help out). • Participate in code and design review process, providing and receiving feedback to and from other developers. • Architect, design and implement new applications and/or complex new features in existing applications. Required experience: • 2 – 5 yrs developing Ruby on Rails applications • 2 – 5 yrs developing front-end applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript • 3 – 5 yrs developing web applications in a Linux environment • 2-5 yrs developing SQL queries • Object Oriented design and design patterns • Agile methods including Test-Driven Development • Strong coding skills, write DRY, highly reusable code • Must be detail-oriented and thorough in design, coding and testing • Good oral and written communication skills • Ability to work as part of an engineering team Preferred experience: • Linux environment • Ruby/Rails community involvement, sharing knowledge, contributing features/fixes • Java, Perl, C • Ajax, Prototype • Apache, Passenger • SVN and Git repositories • Writing new and optimizing existing oracle queries, using hints, indexes and other features. • Online advertising or e-commerce application development For immediate consideration, please submit your contact information and resume in text format (no attachments) to ROR_Engineer@looksmart.net and include “Ruby on Rails” in subject line.
