Working With Rails

My background is originally in real-time control systems. I then did a number of unix system server projects involving daemons, relational databases and specialized sub systems, for Fortune 500 corporations. In 2006 I started developing database driven web sites, using the LAMP stack with PHP and also have used Python and Ruby for back end processes. I monitored Rails’ progress and finally started using it seriously in 2009. I recently migrated my Rails applications to Rails 3 and Ruby 1.9. Ruby and Rails are finally starting to look quite good and I’m excited to see how they continue to progress.

I’ve seem to have found a niche developing Rails apps for internal company use; I’ve done an equipment rental app and an employee timesheet app. And of course my personal web site is done in Rails.

My most mission critical system in Rails is a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for a pharmaceutical testing company, which I can’t show because it is on a private network.
