Working With Rails

I’m a complete Ruby and Rails newbie, but I’m trying hard to learn. I have experience programming Flash and Flash Media Server, as well as some Perl and PHP programming years ago.

My full-time job is teaching English as a second language and beginning Spanish at a mid-sized Midwestern community college. I am also a graduate student at the university across town, where I am pursuing a PhD in second language acquisition. I wish to focus on how learners can use web-based tools to improve their writing, both individually and collaboratively. I hope that learning Ruby on Rails will give me the skills I need to program the system I’m hoping to implement as part of my research.
