Working With Rails

originally, i trained as a mathematician. the next thing i knew, i had spent a decade in corporania in a static-language straight jacket.

these days i’m coding in ruby/rails and loving my work again. for cognitive candy, i explore logic / foundations of computing / philosophy of science. haskell is teaching me how ignorant i am.

meta and functional programming have brought the math back into my life and i am basking in it.

like many of my generation, i am naturally attracted to de-centralised architectures, social software (including shared resource management, community driven distribution systems), location based apps, information visualisation, interaction design…

my current open source involvement is a gesture in this direction: transmute – a network of rails based google mashups that facilitates realish-time lift-sharing
