I’ve been programming since 1995 and been doing so professionally since 1999.
In that time, I have taught myself or become familiar with a number of languages, applications and standards. My soup of programming has liberal chunks of Ruby, PHP, JavaScript and SQL; a white wine foundation of XML, DOM and XSLT; a pronounced flavour of XHTML/Strict and CSS 2 & 3, suitable to the palettes of many browsers; a creamy understanding of SQL and database architecture for MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite; and, a sprinkling of Smalltalk, Objective C, Java and Haskell.
Ultimately, I prefer programming like a sushi chef: the fewest ingredients but of the highest quality and cleanliness. After PHP and Java, I’ve come to really appreciate Ruby’s predisposition for elegant, minimalist language combination to solve even the most complex problems. Other than snappy, sexy Ruby code, I try to use in any one probject as few of those 3/4/5-letter acronyms as possible.
Plugins and a blog on which I occasionally write are my two regular contributions back to the Rails community (when I have time). I wrote the official LiteSpeed wiki page for Capistrano & LSAPI, and posted an additional tutorial on using Mongrel with LiteSpeed.
