Engine Yard is building Ruby on Rails deployment software. We've recently launched Engine Yard Solo (http://www.engineyard.com/solo) for Rails hosting in the cloud. We're looking for more developers who share the passion for making Ruby deployments as easy as possible. Engine Yard is on a mission to improve the lives of developers -- to make running a Rails application as easy as it was to write. This is a chance to write software for developers. How cool is that? Engine Yard has an energized and focused work environment. Come in, put in a focused 8-hour day. Go home, live a life and come back energized for another day. We employ Extreme Programming as the methodology of choice. Hopefully, you can teach us a thing or two. Right out of the gate you'll be expected to work on the meaty, interesting problems. Don't worry, you'll have a pair as your guide to make learning the system fast and fun. Requirements: * Well versed in test/behavior-driven development, pair-programming and continuous refactoring * An expert Ruby programmer * Deep expertise in Merb or Rails (you'll be programming in Merb and be helping with the Merb -> Rails migration path) * Professional experience deploying a production Rails or Merb application * Familiarity with a javascript toolkit like prototype or jQuery (we use jQuery) * Paring is caring. We need people who are comfortable working full-time with a fellow teammate and switching frequently to take new tasks. * Must work out of our San Francisco office in SOMA, no telecommuting candidates. Bonus Points: * Have deployed a high-volume Ruby on Rails application * Familiar with the Rails runtime stack, Apache/Passenger, Nginx/Mogrel, memcached, etc. * Knowledge of DNS, CDN, load balancing, firewalls, VPNs, SMTP, SSL, etc -- all the things that the make the web work * Have deployed into the cloud * Scaled databases * Understand the principals of network-based filesystems (snapshots, clustered file systems) * Familiar with disaster recovery techniques * Familiar with configuration tools like puppet or chef, or have done extensive systems configuration in dynamic languages Engine Yard has received $18.5M in funding from Benchmark, Amazon and New Enterprise Associates and we've got a strong and growing customer base. To apply, please email a resume and cover letter to jarnold@engineyard.com with the subject, 'Ruby Software Engineer' and leave a voice mail message for me outlining your experiences at 1-866-518-9273x277 Thanks! -Joe Arnold
