Ruby / Rails Developer Needed to Head Up a Stable / Fast Growing Company

Pay: open / negotiable

My name is Ben Johnson (www.binarylogic.com), I currently work at NECO (National Event Company - www.neco.com). NECO is NOT a start up. I'm sure if you are looking for a job you are probably tired of seeing advertisements for a social networking start up. NECO is a well established company with over 50 employees. We have been around for more than 3 years and growing very fast. In fact, that's the problem, we have been growing too fast. Believe it or not, I am the sole developer there. I head up all of the projects, decide how they are going to be completed, when they will be completed, what technologies I want to use, etc. None of the projects I have done are cookie cutter rails applications. They are all different and interesting projects, which gives my job variety and gives me the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of ruby. When it comes to my projects I am essentially my own boss. It's a very laid back environment. All that they ask is that I get the projects done properly and in a timely manner. I have a very generous salary, full benefits with dental, all commuting costs paid, full support to attend ruby events, etc. I am good friends with everyone I work with and the work environment is great.

Unmatched Opportunity

All of those things are great, but that's not why I work there. The main reason I work there is for the opportunity. I know every job posting says "there is a lot of opportunity", but how do you know that for sure? And usually if opportunity actually does exist, it comes with risk. I am living proof that this job offers a lot of opportunity. Why? Because I am now heavily involved with one of their sister companies where I received equity, a salary increase, and other perks.

Where you come in

This is where you come in. I am going to be devoting all of my time to this new company. As a result, I will no longer have time to fulfill my original obligations or help them pursue other ideas and new products. You would essentially be replacing me. The best part is that there is little to no risk. So you get the best of both worlds: opportunity with little to no risk. Like I said above, NECO is a well established company, and growing fast, even with this crappy economy. More importantly, this position is essential to the growth and success of NECO and there is only one spot.

Interested?

This is a very important / high up position for our company and has a lot to offer. As a result, we are being somewhat picky. We are looking for someone preferably in the local New York area, but this is not a requirement. More importantly we are looking for someone with experience that knows what they are doing. We are not a big fan of all the hiring formalities. A college degree is not necessary. What we want to see are code examples. We want to know that you love what you are doing and you are passionate about it. If you are interested just contact me, let me know who you are, and anything you think I should know about you. That's it!
