Working With Rails

I have been developing web sites and web applications since 1995 as both an independent consultant and as a developer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I have five years of Rails development experience and over ten years of web application experience, including not only coding and testing, but also server and database administration on both Windows and Linux systems.

• I provide high-quality small group or one-on-one training for developers on topics such as accessibility, Ruby on Rails, Cucumber, test-driven development, and web design concepts.

• I am the author of HTML5 and CSS3 and Web Design for Developers published by the Pragmatic Bookshelf where I currently work as a development editor.

• I maintain and operate Rails Mentors which helps connect students learn various Rails-related topics with help from experienced, qualified mentors.

• I have written several popular articles related to the development and deployment of Rails applications on Windows and have contributed a chapter on Windows deployment to the book Deploying Rails Applications

• I maintain several open-source projects and have spoken at RailsConf 2007, 2008, and 2009. I also am a frequent speaker at the Twin Cities Code Camp.

• I maintain the HTML5 and CSS3 learning tool Rendera, the porfolio site FeelMySkills, code sharing site SnippetStash, and have have helped develop You and Charlie Wu, MyDecisionHelper, and SocialBrokerage.

I love to learn and I love to teach others. I personally believe it is every person’s obligation to do something positive for others, and I am motivated by the success of my clients and my users.
