Working With Rails

Started playing with Rails for some pet projects while I was still employed as a .Net programmer. Starting 2006 I was one of the first 1000 Rails professionals and was contracted to work for a new Rails startup Zaadz.com, a social network based on the concepts of conscious capitalism. A couple of years later Zaadz was bought over by Gaiam, Inc and the site renamed and revamped as Gaia.com. I continued work on the site and other Gaiam properties and projects till early 2010. I’ve since been working at LikeMe.net, a great location based social recommendation site.

I am also a founder of GuestBook.co.za – an accommodation management and booking system.

Over the years I have built a few small sites, but I’ve mainly been involved with very large systems with high load and large code bases.

I’ve built large complex systems and along with the basic assumed Rails skills I’ve done extensive RabbitMQ, Solr and other 3rd party api integration (twitter, facebook, responsys and many others).

Although Ruby is my love, I have tinkered with Scala and Erlang.
