Unshaven geek, dad, Rails hacker, beer drinker, pipe smoking enthusiast, and karate practitioner.
Lived and worked in Japan for 5-6 years. Developed a large ordering system and CMS for a local printing company (which they since rebuilt in Python, boo…). As my first enterprise, built a language school scheduling system in Rails (now decommissioned). Wrote 3 handbooks on installing and using various Linux distributions for Next Media (published in Australia, circulation ~10,000 each).
Been working for Mobiblast since 2007 developing a mobile marketing system in Rails with some cool technologies like Twitter’s old Starling queue server, background processes for making SMPP connections to messaging gateways, and multimedia content transcoding and delivery via MMS & streaming HTTP.
Fun times!
