Working With Rails

Though I consider myself a geek, friends, colleagues and co-workers tell me that my greatest asset is in closely working with end-users, understanding their needs, keeping a friendly disposition and coming up with solutions that work for them. The rate of technological change continues to increase and staying current with the latest tools and skills is a high priority for me! I have 10+ years of production experience in analysis, design and development on a wide variety of platforms, databases, languages and tools for a number of large employers, a startup and even my own company! I have used Oracle PL/SQL extensively for over 8 years, created and maintained web applications in RoR, Cold Fusion and PHP, installed and created databases in Oracle, SQLserver and MySQL and also maintained several personal web domains. I originally learned PHP in my spare time through maintenance of a personal ski house web site with several default scripts that I then customized more and more as the years passed and our needs changed. Currently I am honing my skills in the open-source arena with both Ruby on Rails and Cold Fusion (thus basically ORM in two different flavors!) using both MySQL and PostgreSQL on a variety of my own machines running Windows xp,7 and Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) combined with online training in these and other LAMP technologies. For actual coding I currently use Eclipse (3.5.2) as my IDE with the Cold Fusion (‘Bolt’) and RadRails plugins/perspectives. I am also learning AJAX, a great technology! My preferred browser is Opera due to the Speed Dial and Synchronization features, but of course I also look to test all applications in IE, Firefox and Chrome and on Windows, Linux(Ubuntu) and Mac.
