Working With Rails

My name is Jeff Gardner. I’ve been working full-time as a web developer for 4 years now and I am nearly fanatical about the design, usability and development of content for the web. I love working with HTML, CSS, Javascript and (especially) Ruby and Rails and I always strive to create graceful, concise, well documented code and easy to use sites.

A little about myself outside of work: I’m married to a wonderful girl from Dublin Ireland and about a year ago we moved from Blacksburg, VA (I’m American) to small town called Chiavenna, in northern Italy. It’s a beautiful place nestled right in the middle of the alps. Perfect for doing all things we love to do: Skiing, climbing, cycling, shooting photos and just being outside in general!

• Expert with HTML/CSS (I love HTML5 and CSS3 and I’m happy coding in HAML and SASS as well)
• Expert with javascript and js libraries (I prefer jQuery)
• Expert with the Rails file system and creating/modifying view layer in Rails apps.
• Full understanding of Rails, advanced skills with deep Rails concepts.
• Comfortable with Git and svn (I prefer Git)
• Understanding and use of TDD (Cucumber and Rspec mostly)
• Expert creating small Sinatra (http://sinatrarb.com) apps for use as prototypes or stand-alone micro-sites.
• Experience creating real-time applications with NodeJS.
• Extremely proficient with relational databases (mysql, postgres, sqlite, etc.)
• Experience with noSQL databases (MongoDB, CouchDB)
• Expert with Photoshop.
• Expert with the use of CSS sprites, sifr text replacement, web-fonts, and responsive web design to progressively enhance semantically marked up sites.
• SysAdmin skills, setting up, maintaining and scaling LAMP stack with Ruby on Rails apps.
