Languages of every stripe fascinate me. While Spanish is the only other language in which I’m reasonably fluent, I have studied some French, German, and Japanese. Ruby is definitely my fun and favorite language, but I still have plenty of love for C, Smalltalk, Python, Io, and recently OCaml. Although knowing BASIC is not necessarily a feather in one’s cap, my introduction to programming was Apple IIe BASIC, and it at least offered me enough to realize I really enjoy computation. I have worked on projects ranging from GIS application programming to software for integrated facilities management, access control, and intrusion detection. In the last year, my attention has been almost exclusively focused on Rails development. Except for the time spent finishing up my mathematics degree at Portland State. Most recently, I’ve found an excellent opportunity to pair learning about computation with my passion for Ruby in contributing to the Rubinius project. And I now have a dream job working full-time on Rubinius for Engine Yard.
