Working With Rails

I’ve been programming in Ruby since 2006 and have taught classes in Ruby on Rails.

I like Ruby for it’s lean, high-level, and succinct syntax. It is the closest thing I have seen to poetry in any programming language. The culture of the Ruby community is very nice too as it encourages good software practices like DRY code and automated programmer testing.

Programming tings that I’m excited about now include:

• Scala, a functional dialect of Java

• Cucumber, (a high-level behavior-driven given-when-then text-based Ruby testing framework that describes user scenarios.)

• Squeak Smalltalk and Seaside (After boiling Ruby for 45 minutes and letting it dry for 2 hours in the sun, you get Smalltalk. )

• Amazon AWS (EC2, EBS, S3, etc.)
• Ubuntu
