I have spent the last six months working with a couple of entrepreneurs on a Chicago web start-up project. The experience has taught me a lot about the importance of time- and project-management. Many of my most important lessons in project management during this time were learned through some poor mistakes, though Nietzsche once wrote that the only lessons that remain with you are the ones that continue to burn in your mind. Beyond those lessons, I have taken away a great deal of competence in Ruby on Rails from this stint. I’ve also taken the time to become familiar with HTML/XHTML, CSS, and Javascript (script.aculo.us, prototype), which were employed heavily in the project.
In my personal and free time I like to enjoy nature (hiking, camping, boating are all past-times I like), as well as reading when I get the chance. I’m outgoing sometimes, and reserved at others; it depends on the day and my surroundings. When my interest is sparked I pursue it with enthusiasm. I am especially passionate about my work: when I love what I do, I will pour everything I have into it. Work does not end when I leave the office, I continue to think about problems at home and often work after-hours. I do not like to do a bad job, or a half-assed job “just to get it done.”
I have experience with some agile development methodologies (stand-ups, iterations, pair-programming).
I am finishing the last semester of my Bachelors in Computer Science at Illinois Institute of Technology.
