Working With Rails

I’m a Rails developer, since beggining of 2007, working professionally with it since then. Before that I used to develop all different sort of programming, from microcontrollers (assembly, C) to desktop applications (C++ and wxWidgets, Delphi and some others), kernel modules© and web applications (from Perl, a long time ago – more than 10 years, to Ruby on Rails, nowadays).

From all languages I’ve studied at least a bit (asm, C, C++, pascal, perl, asp, coldfusion, php, python, java, scilab, matlab, and other minor ones), ruby is far the greatest of them. I wish I had known it before, but I just knew it a bit more than a year ago, when looking for frameworks to develop better to the web when I came back to work with web development, and found Rails.

There was a great time I didn’t program for the web since then, so I did my research. Looked at TurboGears, J2EE, .NET, some frameworks for Perl and a few more and comparing them to Rails I made my choice and I still think it was a good one.

I still consider using C or C++ for some projects (manipulating images, developing kernel modules, writing ruby extensions, etc), but I certainly will prefer a dynamic language, such as Ruby, whenever it applies to be a better choice. For web development, there is no doubt.

When not working, I like to play the guitar and learn other instruments such as cavaquinho, bandolim, flute and violin. I like very much Samba (the kind of Cartola, Noel Rosa, Wilson Batista, Geraldo Pereira, Ciro Monteiro, and so on) and Choro.

I also appreciate surfing and meeting my friends on the bar or playing bowling.

As in programming, in life I also enjoy learning new things. I’m always looking for news that will save me some time or make me becomes a better person or professional. I simply don’t appreciate mediocracy.
