I’ve been a full-time software developer since it took over my post-doctoral research associateship in mediaeval numismatics in 1998. Most of that time I’ve been working on database-backed web apps, usually in Java. After seeing the benefits of agile methods (pair-programming, extensive testing, onsite customer, merciless refactoring) at an XP Immersion in 2002, I don’t want to go back. My interest in Ruby and Rails dates back before 2007, but that was the first time I used them in my day job.
