Working With Rails

By day, I’m a web developer working full time using Rails for a major site redesign (and nginx and mongrel too!). I started my IT career about 8 years ago as a systems and database admin. I started programming with ASP and ASP.NET, maintained a Coldfusion site for a while, moved on to PHP and then found Rails!

Handling deployment was a tough transition however. With my many years of Windows Server experience I found learning Ruby at the same time as Linux (Centos 4 is what I ended up with), Apache, Nginx, Mongrel and Capistrano () among other odds and ends) was quite the headache inducing task. I’ve somehow made it through it all and the experience is been really valuable.

I currently work as the sole web developer. I’d love to work on team as well one day. While I plan and execute my own side projects, I really enjoy a team environment. I’m now doing some freelance projects on a MacBook Pro and learning Textmate and Git.

By night, I’m an electronic dance music writer/producer/remixer and sometimes DJ, having worked in a professional capacity several times.
