Ruby on Rails for Real

Pay: USD (Competive Salary)

Short version: We're looking for people who can (and love to) develop elegant web applications using Ruby, Ruby on Rails, and similarly enlightened and fun-loving tools. Sweet-smelling heaps of Aptitude, Attitude, and Appetite can sometimes compensate for any lack of project experience, so take a chance and contact us now. What you'll be doing: You'll be a cherished member of one or more small, focused teams building web apps that aim to delight (while actually being useful). What we're looking for: * A non-acidic burning sensation to build great things, take ownership, and share credit. Craft, not cruft. * Working examples of applications for which you played a significant part in shaping (and most definitely yes, that includes open source work) * An ability to communicate _really_ well with other team members, non-techies, and with your inner Andy Hunt * Solid working knowledge of: ** _Both_ the Ruby language and the Rails framework (but you also like learning new stuff all the time) ** RESTfulness - how to build and use APIs using REST ** SCMs, specifically Mercurial (Hg) and Subversion ** Capistrano (and deployment in general) ** Sysadmin-y stuff to the extent that it's necessary (we're using Rails Machine a lot, btw) * Would be nice, too: ** Agile methods, like Scrum, XP, aspects of "Getting Real":http://getreal.37signals.com/ (37s), etc. ** Technical team leadership ability (ScrumMaster-y stuff) - if you don't have/want to do that, then being a responsible, active team member ** OpenID and related technologies ** Real-world, _judicious_ use of AJAX ** "Javascript-Fu":http://www.giannim.com/blog/?p=25 ** Skillful and non-evil use of Flash, Flex, and Honey-baked Ham ** Crafting standards-compliant and clean XHTML and CSS About us: DLI is a NYC-based business (located on the Northern edge of the Financial District) that develops and delivers Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products both for ourselves and select clients. "ScribeStudio":http://www.scribestudio.com is an example of the former while "AutoRaptor":http://www.autoraptor.com [disclaimer: the 'marketing site' isn't even close to being ready] is an example of the latter. We formerly made ladders, but that's not important right now. We've got a slew of projects and apps in the 'Labs now and on the horizon. We'd like you to help make that horizon get here that much quicker (and especially better). Musings on stuff like this can be found at "ScribeLabs":http://www.scribelabs.com - part of the team with which you'd be working. We're also awfully deep into the online media world. "ScribeMedia":http://www.scribemedia.org/2006/07/09/dhh/ is the media development and strategy arm of DLI. Maybe you've already enjoyed some of our wicked cool productions and pithy commentary. We're open to working with freelancers (NYC-area folks are preferred, but Talent, Talent, Talent beats Location, Location, Location) but firstly we're looking for some full-time folks to work in our Manhattan office. Our wonderful whiteboards are just begging for your dry erase artistry. Note that we pay reliably and are accustomed to (and spoiled by) working with some of the best. About you: Send us your contact info, pointers to stuff you've done (code samples would be nice), and anything else you can think of that'd help us figure out if we should work together.
