Nicola Bernardini was born in Rome in 1956 and studied composition with Thomas McGah and John Bavicchi at the Berklee College of Music of Boston. He has composed several works for traditional, electroacoustic and computer instruments.

He is a self-taught programmer, but has worked professionally in several software projects since 1985. He can program professionally in C, C++ and Java and several scripting languages, including bash, awk, perl, python and ruby.

Previous experiences have led him to specialize his software writing in essentially two directions:

digital signal processing (in particular for sound and in general for multimedia)
web-based dynamic (MVC) applications

and combinations of both.

Early adopter of agile programming practices (in fact, has gone through the whole period of fast prototyping and quick turnaround releasing), he has switched to ruby on rails during the summer of 2006. He is currently developing a ROR-based Free Software archival system for multiple-typed multimedia data, http://trac.sme-ccppd.org/fishrdb FIShrdb.
