I have this tendency to get hyper involved with things that interested me.

For example, with Ruby…

  • Read everything I possibly could about it, books, blogs, ancient Sanskrit, etc
  • Built my blog, and rewrote it a few times
  • Started blogging too much about it
  • Started writing open source plugins and gems
  • Fell in with the Boston Ruby crowd
  • Attended every Boston.rb hackfest… EVER.
  • Eventually started organizing the Boston Ruby meetings
  • Managed to fit in some freelance Rails work in the side

It got so bad that people started to think I actually worked with Ruby by day. Boy, were they surprised to find out I was a closet Java developer!
