Working With Rails

I am a developer that enjoys removing code as much as creating new code if not more. I am pretty good at saying no… five years as an officer in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion program helped me hone that skill. I am old enough to realize that there is no one true development process, software language, editor, or shiny new technology that will make everything right. I am humble enough to realize that there is always more to learn. I like to work with small teams of like-minded developers.

Sites (in rails):

VRCompliance – VRCompliance is a web application that helps communities monitor vacation rental compliance in their area. It uses Rails 3.x, using Heroku, WebSolr, GridFS, DelayedJob, etc.

FEMA Media Library – The public and admin side of this application use RoR 2.3.x. Recently ported to jruby.

ActivImpact – The administrative tool that is used to setup, and manage the public facing site, create leadsites, and integrate with 3rd party tools was built using RoR 2.1.

Mobile Discovery – Worked on initial prototypes for this site, and have started adding additional features. Upgraded site during refactors from 2.0 to 2.3.2. The site is using RoR 2.3.2

EcoShow – Instead of picking up documents at an exhibition you can scan a 2D-barcode or SMS a shortcode and have the documents added to your “virtual” totebag. This site uses to be RoR 2.3.2, haml, sass, and compass with blueprint css.

ShortSwitch – ShortSwitch is a URL shortening service that allows you to use your own domain or subdomain for your shortened URLs. This site uses Rails 2.3.x, haml, sass, compass, and a railskit for its subscription service.
