BDT is looking for a full-time experienced Senior Rails Developer to join our organization and quickly assume a leadership role that will support the expansion of our custom software application and take us to the next level! About Us
We are a not-for-profit organization located in Center City Philadelphia. We are committed to positively impacting the lives of low-income people by educating and applying individuals for public benefits they are eligible to receive. Through our call center and direct-mail operation located in Center City, we have completed more than 200,000 applications on behalf of individuals eligible for public benefits. All of this customer data funnels into a Rails database that has been developed and managed by a local consultant firm along with one in-house developer. We are growing and have decided to take the leap and hire a FT Senior Rails Developer to assume the leadership role on our database. Expert Rails experience is a must in order for this to be a smooth transition. A college degree is not necessary. What we want to see are code examples. We want to know that you love what you are doing and you are passionate about it.

Responsibilities
* Immediately start to develop the strategic growth of the application in line with organizational goals
* Gradually assume full responsibility for code base
* Lead internal developer and oversee consultants
* Communicate vision and strategize with business development
* Establish maintenance and project priorities
* Delegate work tickets
* Plan for system upgrades and growth
* Liaison to internal user feedback team

Required Experience/Skills
* Several years experience developing using Ruby on Rails
* Experience designing, deploying and maintaining at least one web application
* Developed competency with Javascript and CSS
* Experience using a *nix shell
* Familiarity with the following is a plus:
Rails runtime stack, Apache/Passenger, Nginx/Mongrel, memcached
Configuration tools such as Puppet or Chef
Extensive systems configurations in dynamic languages
* Strong communication skills and experience working in a collaborative environment
* Motivated and self-directed
* Mature interpersonal skills
* Able to manage other developers and/or consultants
