For something to add blogging to an existing app, maybe look at something like "Community Engine":http://missingmethod.brunobornsztein.com/projects/community_engine/
What do you need? A full fledged blog based on rails or a blogging plugin which can be integrated within your existing application?
You can use Typo (typosphere.org) as a blog engine. It's rails based and easy to customize.
